Art & Design Activity Hub
Moss Architecture . Interiors Ltd -
The brief required us to develop a multifunctional reception hub containing the main School Reception, information and student advice area, student work hand in area and small meeting space as well as the school administration office.
This included a full interior site clearance, removing all internal layouts and servicing arrangements back to the structural shell and primary supply points, to enable complete renewal of the interior layout and servicing.
Through detailed briefing meetings with staff and students, it became clear that a traditional reception counter was not the solution.
The hub of activities required clear separation of tasks developing separate functional areas for reception, information gathering and work hand in which generated the interior layout proposal.
The reception provides the first point of contact for new visitors, staff and students and required us to develop an open and approachable, yet secure, reception with a strong creative edge.
The traditional reception desk barrier was removed and a more friendly reception table was developed. The reception is contained in a circular space surrounded by glass screens maximising transparency and views into the office interior that is entered through automatic sliding doors.
The colour scheme was developed in conjunction with the art school staff and students.
As well as building user and new visitor control, all staff and student project information is generated and disseminated through this area providing the School of Art and Design with a strategic operations activity hub.
